Also on The Politics Show, we are to expect new legislation forcing us not to put our food waste in landfills. This all comes from EU legislation, we are told. I’ve already said everything I have to say about this, but note in particular the comment from Bruno Prior, who points out that it is the very taxing of landfill that reduces the amount of methane that is captured from landfills.
Then we are told to expect more legislation about smoking. Vending machines in pubs are to go and cigarettes must be sold from under the counter. Devil’s Kitchen has covered this endlessly.
Finally there was an item about ruckus in Manchester with the anti-muslim-extremists vs. UAF with their Socialist Worker banners. Viewers were asked, should people be able to stir up trouble and say whatever they want? The Tory in the studio went some way towards distinguishing between the speech and the violence. Arresting people who smash up property is about the most you can do, I would say. Manchester authorities wanted to ban the event but the Home Office said no. So far so good.
