A post on Samizdata about speculators linked to an Angry Economist article about Elliot Spitzer. Spitzer wants to regulate the prices gas stations charge at the pumps. Apart it being none of his business what businesses charge for their products, this will also prevent them from being able to plan for future costs.
So, Elliot Spitzer is being purely evil when he pursues a case like this. Why? Because he is doing so not because winning the case will make NY a better place to live. He is bringing this lawsuit to pander to the base instincts of the voting public. He wants to be seen as “Having Done Something About High Gas Prices.”
It’s yet another example of a politician doing what politicians do:Â appear to be Doing Something About It.
The Angry Econimist looks to be very good; read the whole blog.
