Much of what I think about the anti-Bush protestors has been said elsewhere, but I want to go on record and say that they’re not protesting in my name. I’m not Bush’s number one fan by any stretch, but rhetoric accusing him of being the world’s number one terrorist, or an evil dictator, or a weapon of mass destruction, or the worst threat the planet has ever seen, is ridiculous.
Iraq is now far better off than it was before the war, and things are improving all the time. Does anyone really not believe that? If these protestors had time machines, would they go back and kill George Bush to stop the war? It seems to me that most of these people would protest about anything Bush did, because it was Bush that did it.
I’m glad things are getting better in Iraq, although I’m sure we all agree there is a lot still to do.
Not many people can mourn the fall of the Hussain regime, that is also true.
However it remains the fact that Britain went into a war on false premises and against the tide of public opinion, I’d say people have every right to remain angry about that.
I find Bush quite a scary fellow, religious fanatics of every hue worry me in fact.
I can’t really disagree with anything you say, especially given that Bush is a religious fanatic. It’s the rhetoric of these protestors I have the most trouble with; perhaps if I actually discussed the issues with one of them we would find much in common.
Having said that, I was always in favour of the war regardless of WMDs, never really seeing them as the real issue. It seemed to me that an opportunity had arisen that should be taken. This explains why I don’t feel very betrayed by the non-appearance of WMDs.
I wonder if the war had been sold as freeing an oppressed people (which it was) rather than as part of a war on terror, would more people have supported it?
Well I’m a wee bit old fashioned. I expect politicians to tell us the truth (well actually I expect them to lie, but I’m sure you know what I mean) and deliberatly deceiving the general public to acheive their goal is a tactic that I expect politicians to be punished for.
That a Prime Minister has been exposed as a Big Fat Liar over such a big issue and for that PM to still be grinning away in office is a disgrace.
I agree that we need to get back to a time of actual honesty. However, I am not totally convinced that much of what was said was lies. At one point Hussain did have WMD’s, and there was little evidence to show that it was gone. You tend to be a bit more demanding of evidence of a guy that is a known criminal than you do of a guy that has a clean record. The first step to honesty, however, will be all of us being honest with ourselves. Much of what is said to be lies told by Bush and Blair are things that are still unknowns. But my previous president was a total liar and got a pass by the same people that are berating Bush. Lets all be honest with ourselves first people, develop a little consistency. I supported the war regardless of WMD’s also, but if they are not found and there is evidence to show that it was known that they were gone, I will shout down Bush for lying jsut as much as I did Clinton. I also know, however, that it took us months to find Sadam, and many of the WMD’s were easier to hide and were given more time to hide. I havent ruled out their existence yet.
