I’ve got nothing against Macromedia Flash itself. What I do have a problem with is the obnoxious attitude that I find on Iiyama’s UK web site. When I visit it, I am re-directed to a page that simply says:
“Sorry, to fully experience our site, you will need the ‘Flash 5′ plug in.”
This is just awful! No attempt has been made to allow me to view the HTML content of the site. I presume there must be some. The worst thing is, it takes effort to keep people out of your site in this way. My browser will quite happily render a blank white box where there is a Flash animation, so why do I need to be kept away like this?
I know I could quite easily download the Flash plugin, but I’d rather do it when I want to. And it’s quicker to visit ViewSonic’s web site instead, who I might actually buy a monitor from.
Update: For the record, I ended up buying an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454. It’s an excellent monitor, with a very good specification and superb image quality. In the end I decided it that it didn’t make sense to ignore what the engineering and manufacturing people at Iiyama have achieved just because of an idiotic marketing department.

Hi, I got to your page when Paul mentioned you’d linked to his site – I too agree with this whole Flash thing. The mentality is all there in the language – to *experience* the site. Not to read, not to use, but to *experience*, like it’s some rollercoaster ride or parachute jump…

Interesting observation. That subtelty of language passed my by!
I disagree. In my opinion, if you can’t take the 30 seconds to download the Flash plugin, then perhaps you shouldn’t be using the internet.
